Poems, Pancakes and the Zombie Apocalypse

I do a section on my blog that trawls through my web history, because I'm a writer, I generally end up perusing the web at some point during the day looking for information, inspiration or procrastination. The websites are random, sometimes morbid, sometimes bizarre, but always interesting.

A selection of my web history this week:

Before I settle down to start writing or researching, I need some grub to get me going. I really must say that Nigella Lawson's American Breakfast Pancakes are a winner. Pancakes are like my favourite breakfast food and Nigella's are the best! They're really easy to make and they always turn out wonderfully.

If you want to learn how to survive the 2011 Zombie Apocalypse, head on over to Nancy Coffey's Agency Blog, where they detail everything from how to spot zombie-ism to how to fend off a rabid zombie attack.

I was searching for the origins (literary or otherwise) of throwing pebbles at a window to get someone's attention. I don't think this particular site could have been more unhelpful: Q. What is the meaning of "throwing pebbles"? A. Without any other context, it means throwing small stones. If anyone has this answer, feel free to inform me. What is the origin of throwing pebbles at a window? I am curious!

There was a school book club that held a mock Hunger Games. Sounds like an awesome idea, right? That is until you read that all they did was activities like blowing up balloons, hula hoops, and hopscotch. Kind of lame if you ask me. I think some more imagination could have gone into it. That and some health and safety waiver forms and you could have had yourselves a proper Hunger Games!

Because of the Hunger Games film which is coming out in March 2012, my friend and I were wondering what the UK rating will be. America seems to be more lax on the violence and the UK seems to be a bit more lax about the sex when it comes to their 12/13 year old audience. According to the British Board of Film Classification the film, considering its content, should be a 15... but I do hope they are about to secure a 12A as so much of the Hunger Games Fanbase are teenagers.

I'm not a poetry person. I just don't know a lot about them. I like them, but I find it difficult to find one that works from me as a reader. I've been in search of some good poetry, to no real success. What poets do you love? If you want to suggest any poems, I'd love that!

I have been searching shipwrecks. I think there's an awesome story (other than the Titanic, come on!) that involves shipwrecks. This guy, Rod Macdonald, is a shipwreck researcher. How cool is that?

Obviously the dark British winter is getting to me because there are a bunch of Spanish Holidays in my search history. Even though we couldn't afford one, I suppose it's always nice to dream...

And now I'll leave you with a video from Alice in Wonderland. You will undoubtedly have the song stuck in your head for the next 5 days, but no bother. I found this doing research for a murder mystery party I'm writing for a youth social. Super fun!
